New changes to government legislation mean that from July 1st 2018 it will be illegal for a member of the public to purchase a motorcycle battery that is supplied with a separate acid pack without them holding an Explosives Precursors and Poisons (EPP) licence
This means since 2018 no Companies can sell separate acid packs with motorcyle batteries which was referred to as (BS) which stands for "bottle supplied" to the british public.
As an example prior to 2018 you could purchase as YTX12-BS which was supplied with a separate acid pack, the same battery today cannot be sold with a separate acid pack, therefore the new part number would be YTX12 (without the BS) this does confuse customers who think there are two different part numbers when in fact there is only one part number which is YTX12 (without the BS) since 2018
Yuasa batteries come from the factory in one of two ways: Factory Activated (FA) where the battery is filled with electrolyte, sealed and charged at the factory. These batteries must be used within a period of time and cannot be stored indefinitely. The other type of battery is shipped dry and can be either a Conventional or AGM type of battery. These batteries are sometimes referred to as Bottle Supplied (BS) because they are shipped with the electrolyte stored in a plastic container (this kind of battery can no longer be supplied with separate acid bottle) The battery is filled with electrolyte from the container when it’s ready to be activated. Once it’s unsealed, a battery should be activated, charged and installed. The plates of an unsealed battery will begin to oxidize making it more difficult to charge later.
